Last morning clinic (Ethiopia Update 8)
Our last morning clinic in Ayder Hospital found a surge in demand from patients eager to be screened for cervical dysphasia. There were roughly 150 women waiting in a small waiting room, and we were happy to offer all the women with small children to come to the front of the line and get their screening. Amazingly, the women in line who saw us ushering women with small children ahead of them smiled and applauded and appreciated that we were doing this.Hospital faculty and administrators had all taken note of the extraordinary developments during the week. We were approached by Dr. Samson, the Chair of OB/Gyn, the Ayder hospital Director and the Dean of the medical school who informed us that they had decided the need was so great that they plan on a 5 full-day clinic in lieu of the previously designated 2 mornings a week.
