We were greeted Sunday afternoon by Ana and Elsa from the soon-to-be dedicated “Collie and Greg Daily” CCC clinic in Chisec, and by Flori, Myra, and Suli from the soon-to-be dedicated CCC “Morris Hazan” clinic at Coban Hospital. Their smiles and enthusiasm were warm welcomes after our long journey.Kim Borden got to work setting up the 2-hour PowerPoint presentation, which was projected onto a makeshift “screen.” The educational training session covered VIA (the “Vinegar Test”); CIN I, II, and III; indications and use of cryotherapy; and examples of the high-tech specula with internal light sources. The nurses were absorbed by the presentation (see photo with Cullen Hallinan and equipment). In the midst of our serious concerns, we had some laughter when Dr. Gordon pointed a lit speculum at one whimsical nurse name Myra. Myra grabbed the speculum, pointed it at Dr. Gordon, and cried: “¡Es una pistola!”Jade Singer PA & MPH chatted with the nurses after the lecture in her nearly-perfect Spanish, and was told that it was a great learning experience, and they were eager to apply their new VIA/cryotherapy knowledge to treat precancerous cervical lesions.Clinic starts bright and early tomorrow morning!
