It's Not All Cervices and Roses

It's Not All Cervices and Roses
20160224_093814Today marked yet another packed schedule for the CCC team. In addition to a meeting with the director of health at the Northeast Department of Haiti, we also visited two of our previously establsihed clinic–one located in Trou-du-Nord and the other in Fort Liberte. Despite some challenges, our team maintained a positive and constructive attitude where each hurdle encountered was viewed as an opportunity for growth and improvement. We are more than ever committed to our cervical cancer programs in Haiti and will work through any and all obstacles to provide “See and Treat” to the women who need it most!Caitlin, Leila, Ellen, and nurse Jeanne traveled to Trou-du-Nord Haiti Jentoday, which was about 45 minutes out from Cap Haitien. We saw lush fields while traveling to clinic. The sky was clear blue, and the weather was just perfect in temperature. Though less women than we had hoped for were able to make it to our clinic, the good news is that all had normal screenings! With nurse Jeanne assisting in translation, we were able to speak with a few of the women about their knowledge of cervical cancer, the importance of screening on a regular basis, and more about their upbringing and health background. The team faced some challenges at Trou-du-Nord but is hopeful that the clinic will be able to maintain a sustainable “See and Treat” program. Although she was needed in various parts of the hospital, Nurse Vivienne, who was directing the screening program, was able to rally many of the women and motivate them to be screened today. Authored by Ellen Nong20160224_09535220160224_114117
