Today, Sunday October 19, 2014, the CureCervicalCancer team met at the Kisii Level 5 Hospital with International Medical Corps, our ground partner, to set up the clinic. We owe many thanks to the Ministry of Health, who was actively involved with the planning of this ambitious project.
We prepared 6 beds (the most we’ve ever had in one clinic!), each equipped with its own CO2 tank and cryotherapy machine. Having 6 screening and treatment stations will allow us to devote plenty of attention to each of our 18 healthcare professionals (an impressive 1 teacher: 3 trainee ratio!). Our goal is to ensure that each trainee is able to learn on as many patients as possible in order to perfect the “See and Treat” procedure under CCC’s diligent guidance. We anticipate a high volume of screening and treating patients in the upcoming week, and after today we are all set to go!
Tomorrow will give the “See and Treat” lecture and commence with our first day of screening. Stay tuned!
