It was a stellar fourth day of “See and Treat” at the Buzuruga Medical Center in Mwanza! When we arrived, the clinic hall was filled with hundreds of women ready to be screened by our team and trainees. We summed up the day with 20 VIA-positive patients who received cryotherapy, and 5 women who were referred due to suspected cancer. Word of mouth travels quickly here. So many women arrived, in fact, that the team had create a fifth screening station to keep up with the seemingly endless amount of women arriving throughout the day.Our trainees have been learning and working hard these past few days and we want to thank them for their enthusiasm for saving womens lives. Cervical cancer rates are an all time high in Tanzania, and the trainees want to do their best to raise awareness and cure their home of this horrible disease. Many of our trainees travelled far to become certified in the “See and Treat” method of preventing cervical cancer, and we hope that they encourage their peers to do the same. We look forward to our last clinic day in Mwanza!By: Ellen Nong (CCC Intern)
