On Friday, May 8, 2015, the CureCervicalCancer team arrived in China with the following goal: to introduce the use of cryotherapy as a treatment option for cervical dysplasia to the local doctors in Guangzhou, Kunming, and Taizhou.Sponsored by MedGyn (the manufacturer of our cryotherapy guns) and the Chinese Ministry of Health, this program is led by CCC Founder, Patricia Gordon MD, and Medical Director, Jennifer Lang MD. Team members include interns Jacquelyn Dang and Stephen Morris, with Board Member Caroline Nitschmann MD joining us on May 11th.By spreading awareness of cryotherapy, we can arm Chinese doctors with a low-cost, highly efficient treatment method that will prevent the deaths of thousands of women from a 100% preventable disease. In addition to educating local doctors, CCC will screen and treat rural Chinese women for pre-cancerous cervical lesions. We began the week at an annual conference in Guangzhou, held by the China Association of Maternal and Child Health, where Drs. Gordon and Lang lectured (via translators) to a room of over 100 like-minded healthcare providers. Dr. Gordon introduced CureCervicalCancer as an organization and demonstrated our use of cryotherapy for treatment of pre-cancerous cervical lesions. Afterwards, Dr. Lang lectured on various topics, including the management of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) and the safety, efficacy, and acceptability for the treatment of CIN. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of this conference and share our message with this group of healthcare professionals who are determined to improve maternal health for the women of their communities.Next, the CCC team heads to Kunming for four days where we will screen and treat patients and continue to educate local doctors in the use and effectiveness of cryotherapy.
