CCC's Return to Quang Ninh, Vietnam: Melanie Miller's (CCC Volunteer) Perspective
To revisit the three CCC clinics opened last May was to witness the lasting impact that the program has made. When we entered the main clinic in Quang Ninh at the Major Reproductive Center, each doctor and nurse we had worked with squealed with delight in recognition of our faces and visa versa. There were smiles and hugs all around, and then teaching of the new doctors and nurses who will man the new clinic began! Everyone was deeply invested. We visited and worked in each of the three clinics we opened last May. How wonderful to see CCC’s “Se and Treat” method working so smoothly. Everything was orderly and women continue to be screened and treated. Then, we moved on to open the two new CCC centers. Doctors from the first clinic helped in opening the two new ones and this worked perfectly. New and strong friendships were formed as we worked to screen as many women as possible.Invitation letters were sent to families in the neighborhoods surrounding the new CCC clinics. The clinics opened at 7:00 AM and by 9:00 AM there were over a hundred women waiting to be seen. The percent of women screening positive was sky high! This was validation that CCC is so needed in these areas. And on these five days, over 200 women’s lives were saved. How gratifying!Authored By:Melanie MillerCCC Volunteer
