Nou ap Retounen: "We Will Return"
The CCC team arrived for a second clinic day of “see and treat” at Bethesda Medical Center. The progress made between day 1 and day 2 was incredible. The system had been established and everyone knew their roles, so we were able to open our doors for patients in a very short time.IMG_0884While registration was in progress, a National Radio Station journalist interviewed Dr. Lang. It was interesting to note that the majority of the interviewer’s questions regarded the sustainability of this clinic. This emphasized what we have been hearing again and again in response to our program: the appreciation of local medical professionals for inspiring and empowering them with this new skill, which they can bring home to their communities. Our trainees from the first day all returned with great enthusiasm, showing comfort in the procedure and greater confidence in their skills. At the end of the day, one of our physician trainees, a general medicine practitioner, told us that he would be interested in pursuing a specialty in gynecology. It is exiting for us to think of the possibilities about how this work may shape careers to go on to benefit women’s health for years to come.As we said our sad good-byes to the team that we felt so close to at the end of the week, we feel that the International Medical Corps team genuinely appreciated the CCC program. We appreciate the quality and integrity of our partners, these real professionals, who we have been tirelessly working with us to ensure the sustainability of our clinics. Throughout the week, IMC expressed how important our organization is for women’s health in Haiti and that they wish we would have come to Haiti sooner. We look forward to a lasting relationship with IMC and a return to Haiti in the near future.
