The Kisumu Project is one that has taken extraordinary planning. CureCervicalCancer has worked very hard over many months to make sure that no detail was overlooked in preparation for four
fully-functioning and sustainable cervical cancer screening and treatment clinics.
As the only gynecologist on this trip, I anticipated focusing on the teaching aspect of screening for and treatment of cervical cancer with local healthcare providers. I was overjoyed to see how much the CCC team had gone above and beyond in the execution of this program. They focused on the teaching aspect of local providers by perfecting the orientation, writing materials, and one-on-one training.
This passion for education is what sets CCC apart from other similar organizations. The Kisumu project now has four successful and sustainable cervical cancer screening and treatment clinics, and the success of this mission was an 11 out of 10! As a board member, I have had many opportunities to be involved with CCC; however, as I am finishing my residency at the combined Harvard Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Ob/Gyn program, it has been challenging to do as much international medical work as I would like. I am proud to be affiliated with CCC, and as I prepare for my fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Mayo Clinic, I look forward to continuing this great work with CCC.

The CCC Team would like to add that we had the opportunity to revisit our clinic in the Transmara. This region of Kenya is largely populated by the Masai people. The purpose of this was to further train the local healthcare nurse Berly and Dr. Mike at the Mela Kent Clinic. We were thrilled that both Dr. Mike and Beryl continue to keep the dedicated clinic room and equipment in pristine condition. The continued success of this clinic 6 months after its establishment fu!
