Setting up a clinic in Wukra (Ethiopia Update 7)
Our Ayder hospital clinic was becoming increasingly functional and self-sufficient so we decided to take one cryotherapy unit and a tank of CO2 and spend an afternoon at a small regional clinic in the town of Wukra. Jade Singer stayed at the Ayder Hospital clinic to supervise and help troubleshoot any issues that might arise. We brought all the essential supplies, and upon arrival we were able to have 2 exam rooms and a sterilization system set up within minutes. As we began performing See and Treat cervical exams on the women who had heard about our program, word quickly spread and very shortly there were nearly 100 women seeking screening. We worked well into the night, before we had to make the decision to break down the clinic and return to Mekelle. The one consolation was that we were able to convey to women who were not able to be seen that they could present for free cervical screening at the Ayder clinic as part of the ongoing Cure Cervical Cancer program.
